Match Trivia
Played at Ibrox Park before about 8000 spectators. Rain was falling heavily when Graham started the game for Port Glasgow. Rangers immediately took the game in hand and aided by the hurricane, which blew from the west, were seldom far away from the visitor’s goal. Several corners were gained, but no scoring resulted from these chances. After fifteen minutes continuous pressure Dalrymple was successful in opening the scoring, and the same player shortly thereafter added a second point, the Rangers leading by 2-0 at halftime. With the elements behind them in the second half, it was expected that Port Glasgow would have the larger share of the lay, and the opening passages looked as if this would be realised, Sinclair being called upon to save several shots from O’Brien and Graham. But soon the game veered round in Rangers favour and Dalrymple was instrumental in scoring how own and his team’s third goal. Ward in goal for Port Glasgow got through an immense amount of work and it was almost entirely due to his efforts that the Rangers were not leading by a larger margin. Close on time McColl scored a fourth goal after a brilliant single-handed run, the game ending as indicated in a win for Rangers by 4 goals to 0
