Match Trivia

Played at Ibrox Park. Paul kicked off for the Thistle, and the game at once became very fast, the nature of the ground – which has been prepared for next Saturday’s trail matches – favouring this kind of play. The game was pretty equal for a quarter of an hour, though the Rangers, with the sun behind them, had rather the better of the play, and at the end of that time a nicely placed goal was headed through by John Gow. After Paul had slip over the Rangers crossbar the home team came back, and Donald Gow put a pass from Sutherland pas McCorkindale at lightning speed. From the kick off the Thistle paid a visit to Nicol, and Suter put the teams again on lever terms, by scoring from a throw-in. Donald Gow was playing a fine game in the centre, his shooting alone the ground being very fine, but McCorkindale was equal to all demands upon him. A couple of minutes before time Johnstone scored with a splendid long shot, and when the whistle blew for halftime the score was – Partick Thistle 3 goals, Rangers 2 goals. The play of the Rangers, whose combination in the first half had excelled that of their opponents, fell off a good deal in the second portion of the game. The Thistle, all through the second part had the better of the play, but the defence of the Rangers was good, and on only one occasion did the strangers succeed in out-witting the defence. Nicol did not show up well as McCorkindale, who safely got away some difficult shots. The play was less vigorous than that which usually characterise, the meeting of these teams; but the state of the ground made a policy of mutual forbearance a necessity. The final result was – Partick Thistle 4 goals, Rangers 2 goals.
