Match Trivia
Played at Ibrox Park, Govan before 2000 spectators. Owing to the lateness of the start, the game was restricted to two thirty-fives. Having loss the toss, the Rangers kicked off with a slight breeze against them. In the first five minutes of the game the Partick Thistle had a couple of free kicks from fouls, but they both proved fruitless. A smart run by Henderson and Allan ended in the latter passing to McFarlane, who was lying handy, and notched the first goal for the Rangers. The Thistle next had a try, but Reid saved. Wyllie got away on the Rangers right and centring the ball well, Allan put on a second point for the ‘light blues’. After this the Partick Thistle strove hard to improve their position, Hislop, Paul and Johnston being conspicuous. The defence of the Rangers was too good, and could not be broken down. Halftime sounded with the score – Rangers 2 goals; Partick Thistle 0 goals. After a short interval the Partick Thistle re-started the game with the wind against them. Two minutes later McFarlane scored the third point for the Rangers. Nettled at this reverse, the Thistle came away with a grand run, and Drummond by a splendid shot scored the first goal for the Partick Thistle. The Rangers retaliated, and Wyllie added a fourth for the home team. For some time after this play was confined to midfield. The game was splendidly contested and very fast. From a free kick Hislop scored a second goal for the Thistle. The Rangers now put on the pressure, and Allan beat McCorkindale for the fifth time. Just before time the Rangers had a couple of corners, but nothing came of them. The result was – Rangers 5 goals; Partick Thistle 2 goals.
