Match Trivia
This match came off at Hampden Park kindly put at the disposal of the Rangers by the Queen’s Park in presence of a very fair turnout of spectators and ended in favour of the Partick men by the large score of five goals to one. The ground was in fine order for the match, but the play on the whole was slow. The Rangers kicked off and a minute or two afterwards the Thistle gained a corner-flag kick, which however was unproductive. The game was very slow during the first ten minutes, but the Thistle had the best of it. Shortly two corner kicks were obtained by the Partick team, but nothing came of them. The Thistle then bore down to Chalmers, where Suter should scored. Lawrie tried a straight shot, which Duff kicked out. A corner kick afterwards fell to the Rangers, which was unproductive. The play afterwards continued very fast opposite the Rangers goal, and Marshall took a flying shot and sent the ball between the posts. A minute afterwards Johnstone took a second goal for the Thistle. The Rangers goalkeeper had now a brisk time of it for the next five minutes, and saved a good many difficult shots. Halftime was called soon afterwards, with the Thistle two goals and the Rangers nothing. The Rangers in the second half commenced with great spirit, and in a short time a goal was kicked by Lawrie. The ball was now carried to the front of the Thistle goal, where Lindsay tried a long shot, which Duff saved. Marshall took a splendid run, and the Rangers conceded a corner kick, which was so well taken that Suter managed to kick the third goal for the Partick team. The ball was soon again carried to the Rangers goal, where Suter headed past Chalmers, thus scoring the fourth goal for the Thistle. After this the play became very fast, but no further scoring took place, the game ending as stated above.
