Match Trivia
Played at Ibrox Park, Govan before 2000 spectators, both teams were up to their full strength. Losing the toss, the Rangers kicked off against the wind. The Thistle were first to press, but Gow relieved, and transferred the play to the other end. The Rangers did all the pressing for the next fifteen minutes. Four corners in succession fell to them, but they made nothing of them, owing to the grand defence of the Thistle. The game now opened up a bit. Run and counter run was the order of the day, but neither team could find an opening and halftime sounded with the result, a draw – no goals. The second half was ten minutes gone when Kerr cleverly notched the first goal for the Rangers. Immediately after the Thistle had a combined rush, from which Johnstone equalised. For some time after the game was evenly and hotly contested. Fifteen minutes before the close the Thistle scored a second goal from a corner kick. Johnstone added a third point for the Thistle. Pulling themselves together, the Rangers put in a combined effort, and obtained a corner, from which Hislop scored a second point for the light blues. Time sounded immediately after. Result – Partick Thistle 3 goals: Rangers 2 goals
