Match Trivia

The opening League match at Ibrox attracted about 7000 spectators. The opening play was spiritedly contested, but the Rangers defence was not too steady. Hamilton opened the scoring for the Rangers with a beautiful header from a fine cross by Smith, and when Lennie popped on a second goal the match may be said to have been lost and won. At this time the Rangers were showing irresistible form and though the Partick backs lying to wide Hamilton rushed through and scored. Halftime – Rangers 4: Thistle 0. On restarting Neil scored for the Rangers who were displaying combination although superior to that of their opponents, and Hamilton soon made the total six. Duncanson, Kennedy and Muirhead tried to improve the Thistle position, but by this time the Rangers defence was thoroughly sound, and few liberties could be taken. Neil scored again and Mackie followed the Rangers being seen at their best all playing splendid football. Lennie, who had never been seen to better advantage, scored the closing goal after the best rush of the day. Result – Rangers 9 goals: Partick Thistle 0 goals
