Match Trivia

This match was played at Ibrox Park, before 5000 spectators. The Rangers started against the wind, but so well did they play that the visitors had to defend early in the game. The Rangers forwards shot well and often, but they failed to beat Howden. Lawrie broke away on the right, and centred the ball to Kennedy, who beat Sinclair. The home team quickly equalised through McColl, whose goal was immediately followed by one from Kyle. The Thistle them took up the running and ere halftime had added two goals from close range. Halftime – Partick Thistle 3 goals: Rangers 2. On resuming the Rangers pressed hard but their shooting was bad. The Thistle occasionally made raids on the home goal, and from one of these they were awarded a penalty against Gourlay. Wilkie scored from it. Again the Rangers pressed hard, but Howden was seldom tried with a decent shot. Eventually Robertson sent in a hard straight one, and Howden was beaten. To the end the Rangers forced the pace, but without effect, so well did the visitors defence play. Result – Partick Thistle 4 goals: Rangers 2. Drawings £127.
