Match Trivia
This match attracted about 6000 spectators to Ibrox Park, which was in prime condition. The Rangers were first away Walker being prominent in forcing the attack. The Thistle soon retaliated, and Wilkie had Watson beaten with a shot, which struck the crossbar, while R Gray caught the rebound, but sent past. The game was being fought on even lines, and Wilkie missed a rare opening with only Watson to beat. This was in direct contrast to what followed, for Walker from an awkward angle, opened scoring for the Rangers. Howden being completely deceived by the shot, Crawford was working hard and effectively for the Thistle, who were unfortunate at close quarters. Halftime – Rangers 1: Thistle 0. The Rangers had been poorly served by their right wing, but Chalk on resuming put in a smart run, his centre being intercepted by Wilson. At times things slackened fearfully, and there was little in the game, the Rangers being little better than their opponents. The Thistle latterly roused themselves and twice the Rangers goal escaped very luckily from warm scrimmages almost under the bar. The shooting of the Thistle however was most erratic, the ball being time after time sent over the bar. The Rangers were being able to seize their opportunities, and just before the finish Hamilton headed a goal from a corner well placed by Smith. Result – Rangers 2 goals: Partick Thistle 0 goals
