Match Trivia

This match was played at Ibrox Park in wet weather before 2000 spectators. In spite of the greasy pitch play was fairly interesting at the start. Kennedy twice tested Sinclair and Smith and Kyle shot past at the other end. Kivlichan was rewarded for some clever work on the right with a smartly taken goal. Thistle tried hard to equalise, but Sinclair cleared when called upon. Halftime – Rangers 1 goal: Partick Thistle 0. On resuming the Thistle attacked, but Sinclair was equal to all the demands made upon him. The Rangers several times broke away, but their finishing was bad. Latterly the Thistle hemmed the home team to their own goal, but although even Gibson and Gilchrist tried to get the equaliser, Sinclair defied all efforts to score. Near the end Rangers ought to have scored from a centre by Smith. The Thistle were most unlucky to be beaten, and were value for at least a draw. Result – Rangers 1 goal: Partick Thistle 0
