Match Trivia
This game came off at Kinning Park in presence of a very fair attendance of spectators, and ended in the splendid victory for the Rangers of five goals to none. In consequence of the thaw the ground was very soft and rendered the work of the backs on both sides difficult. The Rangers had the wind in the first round and after some hard work in midfield they had the best of a close scrimmage and a fine run was started by Buchanan and Heggie, and the ball being well centred to Pringle, that player earned a neat goal. After the kick-off from midfield, the strangers made a bold dash into Rangers territory and Marshall came close up to McIntyre before he was challenged but the old Rangers halfback soon tackled him and sent the ball back to Patrick ground. Some good work was then done by the Partick backs and goalkeeper, but the rushes of the home forwards proved too much and a second goal was scored out of a hard scrimmage. The Partick forwards profiting by another kick-off made a good run against the wind, but they could not get past the Rangers backs and before halftime a third goal was scored by Peacock, who had the ball passed to him by Heggie. From the known ability of the visitors it was expected that they would be able to do something in the way of scoring with the wind in their favour, but friends from Patrick were greatly disappointed when it was observed that they failed to make much headway with their powerful opponents. The forwards frequently started some good runs, but failed to pass the Rangers backs close enough to score. The Rangers on the other hand maintained their position with the breeze against them and soon registered a fourth goal – the ball coming in very smartly from the left. The teams then faced up in midfield and after some smart runs on the part of the Rangers forwards a fifth goal was scored out of an exciting scrimmage. Nothing further was added till time was called, victory thus resting with the Rangers by five goals to none.
