Match Trivia
An immense crowd assembled at Kinning Park to witness the match between the Rangers and the Nottingham Forest players. In about three minutes the Rangers had the ball very nearly through – the leather just going over the posts. A good run up the whole length of the field was made by Bishop who brought the ball close to the Rangers goal, but Gillespie managed to send it back into midfield where the play continued for sometime. Gradually the Rangers made their way forward and frequent charges at the Nottingham goal ensured. By good goalkeeping however the local men were prevented from obtaining their end. Shortly afterwards within 15 minutes of the kick off – Hill by a capital screw kick secured the first goal for the Rangers. Just before half time the Nottingham men were again in close proximity to the opposing goal and shot well for the opening only missing an advantage by the extreme agility of Gillespie. In the second half Struthers and Hill kicked goals for the Rangers and the match which was an unfortunate one for the Englishmen ended in favour of the Rangers by 3 goals to none. After the match the Rangers entertained the Nottingham men to dinner in the Athole Arms when Mr Harkness president of the Rangers Club occupied the chair and Mr AH Smith captain of the Nottingham players acted as croupier. A very agreeable evening was spent
