Match Trivia

Played at Ibrox Park, before a small crowd, the Rangers without seven of their usual team, Higgins of Notts Forest started the game. Rowan caught the pass, and was on the fair way for McKenzie when McIntyre interposed, and transferred play to the other end. After some interchanges between the Rangers front and the Notts back division the ball was sent behind. Kerr raised the hopes of the Rangers supporters by a splendid spurt on the left, but he did not get far when the referee stopped him. The ball had previously been in touch. Just before halftime the Rangers front division made a raid on Brown. Led by McFarlane they cleared all opposition, Brown ran out to save, McFarlane tipped the ball to McPherson who scored the first goal rather easily. Halftime result – Rangers 1: Notts Forest 0. After an interval of ten minutes the game was resumed, McFarlane setting the ball in motion. W Smith got possession, and made for McKenzie, Peacock passes to Smith, who arranged a long shot, which had the desired effect, the ball sailing out of McKenzie’s reach. Play now became more exciting, run followed run, and both teams strove their utmost to improve their position. Getting a good start, Higgins made up the field, and passing everything beat McKenzie for the second time with a swift low shot, which the Rangers custodian just tipped with his foot as it went through. The result was – Notts Forrest 2 goals: Rangers 1 goal
