Match Trivia

In continuance of their tour in Scotland, Newcastle United played the Rangers at Ibrox Park last night; there was a good attendance. In the opening stages of the game neither team held any advantage, and the ball travelled from end to end with rapidity. A Smith opened the scoring for the Rangers with a fine shot, which completely beat Douglas. Some clever work by Waterford and Templeton brought the equaliser. Towards halftime Newcastle had the better of the exchanges, and some fine football was shown by the forwards. Halftime – Rangers 1: Newcastle United 1. On the resumption the English forwards were at once round Lawrence, but it was some time before their score was increased by Templeton. A breakaway by Lennie and Hamilton brought play into United ground where Smith struck the post with a diagonal shot. On the rebound Hamilton banged into the net and made the score once more equal. The game ultimately ended – Rangers 2 goals: Newcastle 2 goals
