Match Trivia
Rangers got home with little to spare, for Motherwell put up a plucky fight and narrowly missed drawing the game at Ibrox. The visitors had to battle against the storm in the first half, and it was very creditable to them that they kept the ‘Light Blues’ from scoring, besides carrying the attack to Hempsey’s end at different times. Rangers’ forwards played better against the gale, and early in the second half took the lead, Cairns being the scorer. The same player got the second, and Craig Brown, after repeated praiseworthy efforts, scored Motherwell’s goal near the finish. Rundell had to handle the ball a good deal oftener than Hempsey, but both cleared their lines confidently. With the half-backs it was a case of checkmating against the blizzard and working under difficulties, so far as controlling the ball was concerned, with the wind behind them. Pursell was prominent on the Ibrox side, and Riddell also did well; while, if the Motherwell men were not brilliant, they were dogged, and held the opposing forwards with fair success. All the Ibrox forwards did good work at one time or another, Cairns and Duncan being most prominent. Craig Brown was the outstanding Motherwell forward, and King, reappearing after being off injured, did clever work. Kelly got some good balls across
