Match Trivia
The first of the games between these teams was played at Greenock in wretched weather before 4000 spectators. Rangers force the pass from the outset, and Walker with a little care might have opened their account in the first minute. Keeping on the aggressive Rangers gave Morton’s defence a hard spell of work, Sinclair in goal distinguishing himself. After 15 minutes Speedie shot a goal, the reward of a clever run carried through in conjunction with Robertson. Morton improved on their opening play, Grieve especially displaying form of a high order, but no goals resulted. Rangers led at the interval by one goal to nil. An energetic burst away by Morton shortly after resuming terminated in Roberts equalising. The shot was a hard one taken 20 yards out, and Watson making the mistake of attempting to use his feet was completely beaten. This reverse spurred the Rangers on to put more heart to their game, and Morton themselves were not much in the game. Not too minutes after Morton scored, Walker again put Rangers ahead, and before the end Robertson added another. The game spoiled to a great extent by the weather and the slippery footing, was nevertheless very interesting and the result about injustices the respective displays of the teams. Sinclair Morton’s goalkeeper however had a busy afternoon of it. Result – Rangers 3: Morton
