Match Trivia

Minus their four League Internationalist, the Rangers at Ibrox completed their League programme with a win. At one part of the game it looked as if the Ibrox eleven would secure a runaway victory, for after about 30 minutes, notwithstanding the fact that the play had been ranging pretty freely from end to end they led by 3 goals to 0. Hamilton was responsible for the opening goal, which was the outcome of one of his characteristic dashes, between the backs, and the same player obtained the second by another brilliant individual effort, while Speedie scored the third cleverly. The Morton who had been very unfortunate so far in their finishing secured a goal shortly before the interval, Stevenson heading the ball past Dickie from a corner. In the second half the Greenock team played up well, and had quite as much of the game as the champions. The latter however managed to maintain their two goal lead till near time when James Oswald scored. This infused life into the game which had become somewhat tame. The ground was a bit treacherous, and taking this into consideration the quality of the play was very good. The Ibrox eleven was a tolerably strong combination and the young Leaguers are due every credit for making such a close fight of it. The best part of the losers play was furnished by their inside forwards Pearson, Oswald and Stevenson whose bustling combined runs in the second half kept the Rangers defence lively. Hunter who played vice Colligan, made a creditable appearance at halfback, in which division the Morton inferior to the home lot. The backs did not kick quite so well as usual, but were strong in their tackling, and covered each either up judiciously. Dickie and McPherson were clever at goal. Drummond was the better of the Rangers backs, and Neil the most prominent in the middle line. The centre-half was going so strong that James Oswald took to lying off side, but this did not pay, a couple of goal scored by the Greenock centre being disallowed. Stark was much in evidence until he received a slight knee injury, which necessitated his temporary retired. Of the forwards Hamilton and Sharp were the pick. The latter also showing up well as halfback while substituting Stark
