Six and one are seven and what do you think? Morton got the first of the bunch. And let me tell you the Rangers had no easy job getting level and then taking the lead. Mortons defence stood to their guns right through the first half. Bourhill and Miller went fearlessly for everything, and the half-backs skelped the ball down the field lustily, trusting to the forwards to make connection and catch the Rangers defence open. While the play ran definitely in Rangers favour up to the interval, the forward play was not really good. It was all a mixture with noting very clear cut. The new formation was not a success at all. But seven minutes after the restart McPhail cut across to his own position and Smith went to inside right, Mortons number was up. McPhail began to play as if he was happy and Smith and Marshall both enjoyed the readjustment. Four more goals were clapped on, and Mortons plucky defence could not be blamed for that. Their forwards, who had shown bits of real cleverness in the first half, faded out because the big kicking of their half-backs stopped finding the man. Keyes and Lyle and occasionally Ray and McLaughlan were clever individually, but too many asses went to feet of the Ibrox half-backs. They managed to give the Rangers defence a few frights, however, and somehow it seemed all in the way of things when Lyles shot was deflected past Hamilton by Simpson. This occurred seven minutes after the start, and four minutes later Meiklejohn equalised from a free kick. English shot the second goal a few minutes later, but Wilson could not be beaten again up till the turn. There was no improvement in the Rangers forward play until the shuffle of position took place, but five minutes afterwards Smith and Marshall combined in a right wing thrust which ended in Marshall crashing the ball into the net. That started the Rangers and McPhail came on to some heavy firing and his shot which brought the fourth goal was a teaser Wilson got his hands to the ball but could not stop it. Fleming dodged round Bourhill to shoot the fifth, and in the last-minute Smith being brought down, took the penalty himself. Wilson saved but Smith ran in and netted and that ended it.
