Match Trivia
Rangers and Linthouse faced each other on Ibrox Park on Saturday for the last time this season. The interest in such a meeting was fully manifested by the large turn-out of spectators. Having choice of ends, Linthouse took advantage of a strong wind, and forced the pace at the outset. Playing a quick kick-and-rush game, they gave their opponents lots to do in keeping their lines clear. However, the Rangers scored first, and then the Linhouse swept down on McIntyre in a body, and crushed goalkeeper and ball through. This was repeated soon afterwards, and at half-time they were leading by 2 goals to 1. The tables were turned when the teams crossed over, and it says much for the Linthouse defence that only on three occasions did their goal collapse. By far the prettiest play was shown by the Light Blues. Nevertheless, they were considerably upset through the methods of their opponents, and their passing park ok of the nature of long kicks. Wylie was well watched, and only once did he get a fair shy at goal, and on that occasion he scored. Kerr did not combine well with McPherson, and McFarlane was too keen to pass when a long shot might have come off. Mitchell was the best of the halves, while Hay and Gow were at times fluky in returning. The best part of the Linthouse team is their backs and half-backs. Gold and Hodge played a sturdy defence and the goalkeeper was pretty safe. He was beaten, however, in the high shots.
