Match Trivia
In accordance with the draw in the third round of the Scottish Cup proper the Kilmarnock appeared at Ibrox. However previous to their appearance the ground had been declared unplayable by Inspector Henry for a Scottish Cup tie, but so much reparations having been made and expense incurred it was resolved to the public that the game was an ordinary one. Over 5000 spectators stepped inside. The Rangers full team was a field, but the Kilmarnock on account of nothing being at state left out left out Craig, McPherson and Maitland, and substituted Young, Wylie and Downie. The hard treacherous nature of the ground rendered it somewhat unsafe for the players and forcible play was conspicuous by its absence, the players preferring to act as gently as possible. The Rangers easy style of progress gave them the pull, and Hamilton opened the score for them off a judicious pass from Smith. At intervals other goals seemed imminent, but no more were registered prior to halftime, which found the Rangers leading by 1 goal to 0. Play in the closing half was pretty much on the same lines as the first part on the Rangers all through displaying a more finished interpretation of the game in its finer points, with the Kilmarnock going at a go-ahead style, which abounded in dash without force. Gibson from halfback added a second goal for the Ibroxonians with a splendid shot from far out. The Rangers continued to have the upper hand, and latterly Hamilton again scored a goal very similar to the first. This ended the scoring and the game thus terminated in victory for the Rangers, the score being Rangers 3: Kilmarnock 0. The drawings were Gates £129: stands £10 in all £139.
