Match Trivia

Practically with the last kick of the match the Rangers got full points. That they thoroughly deserved their victory no one for a moment would deny, but a good deal of sympathy was expressed for Kilmarnock in losing on the post after a strenuous struggle, lasting throughout the second half almost, to repel the Rangers attacks. The game was more open in the first portion, when the Ayrshire men had a share of the attacking. Their forwards played a wide passing game; and kept the home defence busy. There was no scoring, however and after the resumption the real struggle began. Right off the Rangers attacked, and with the exception of a few bursts, the game was fought out in Kilmarnock’s ground. The Rangers forwards, besides shooting badly, did not prove themselves to be very tactful. Anderson never left Campbell, who was over-anxious, so much so that on one occasion he was over to take a throw-in. The burly centre got goal, which won the match, however, and it was certainly worked for by him. The winners did not impress one as being at their beat. The defence although given an easy task, were at time fluky; the wing halves were only fair, and the forwards were at sixes and sevens. For Kilmarnock the defence was excellent. Young did well in goal, and the backs were equally good. Agnew perhaps, being the most noticeable because of his stylish kicking. Anderson apparently had a mission to watch Campbell, and he carried it out, but Shaw was the best of the middle line. Among the forwards Hugh Wilson was always noticeable, but the line never settled
