Match Trivia
Rangers were unmistakably the superior team at Ibrox. They may have been fortunate to get two of the goals; but, no matter what the figures might have been, they certainly were the better side. Archibald scored a fine goal at the end of twenty-five minutes, getting in his final shot after being twice tackled. Before the interval the Rangers got another from ‘a corner’ taken by the outside-right, and this one was strongly protested against. The goalkeeper was injured, and the Kilmarnock players were strongly assertive that the ball went into the net direct from the flag-kick. The third goal, scored in the second half, ought to have been saved by Blair, who, once, elected to fist a bouncing ball instead of clutching it. Rangers were sound in every department. Herbert Lock took Hempsey’s place, and Blair made a welcome reappearance. Neither the goalkeeper nor backs were greatly troubled. All the half-backs were at the top of their form; and in the right-wing combination of Archibald and Gordon lay the strength of the attack, with Cairns ably supporting their efforts. Blair had some fine saves, and made one serious mistake. Hamilton and Mitchell stood up well to the opposing attack, but the half-backs were only moderate, and the forwards never settled.
