Match Trivia
At Ibrox in presence of 4000 spectators, the provincialities appeared in opposition to the Rangers, although according to the draw they should have entertained the Rangers at Inverness instead. The Ibroxonians opened with the utmost confidence and although the Inverness men worked with fine pluck Wilkie early succeeded in opening the score. The visitors replied with refreshing work, which looked promising indeed, but had no success attending it. After a really magnificent single-handed effort A Smith raised the Rangers score and a heavy defect loomed ahead for the northerners. However they recovered grandly, and put a different aspect on the game when Munro reduced the odds and the interval arrived with the Rangers only leading by 2 goals to 1. The Caledonians resumed so vigorously that they came near equalising. The Light Blues subsequently took matters pretty much in hand, and as the result of capital centres by Smith and Campbell other two goals were registered while Hamilton scored a fifth within two minutes from the close. The result was Rangers 5: Inverness Caledonian 1
