Match Trivia
The afternoon match in the Rangers ground witnessed a complete revival in the play of the Hibs and a falling off in the display of the Light Blues, who had the same eleven that vanquished St Mirren so easily on Saturday. Breslin was still an absentee on the Hibs side. The Rangers put in some fine work against the wind, but there was no holding of the Edinburgh team who let themselves out in fine style. Handling got a soft goal after 15 minutes play, Dickie misjudging a ball from 30 yards range. Rennie defied the home forwards repeatedly in the second half and Neil, usually so reliable with penalty-kicks, sent one harmlessly over the bar. At 12 minutes to go handling scored a clever goal after some excellent work by McCartney. The Hibs were value for their win because of the trim and determination they put into their play. In the opening half the Rangers compared badly with their opponents, but after the interval, when play saw the points slipping from them, they exhibited something like their accustomed dash. In a good all round eleven, Handling stood out prominently, his tackling of Hamilton being of the first class. Harrower and Robertson also did their part well, and as a combination the Hibs, were superior to the Rangers lot of whom Neil was the smartest. It must be admitted the Rangers forwards were a trifle unfortunate, for several of their shots were worthy a better fate. Campbell and Smith were the best of the quintets; while McCartney and Callaghan were the smartest of the visitors. Smith and Drummond, although at times a trifle unsteady, both did good work, and compared favourable with Hogg and Glen. Dickie got very little to do. Rennie for the first thirty minutes of the closing half was of invaluable service to his side. Neil missed a penalty
