Match Trivia

Played on Ibrox Park, ground of the Rangers before 22,000 spectators. Having loss the toss the Rangers kicked off towards the east goal, and against a slight breeze. McPherson passed to Low, but Raisbeck intercepted, and gave the ball to Dougal. The Hib got well set, and looked like scoring, but he was blocked by N Smith. Some clever play by Hyslop ended by a pass to A Smith, but the ball went into touch. From the throw-in Pryce got possession, but he was successfully tackled by Drummond, Miller was next prominent. He got out on the left and put in a grand run, getting easily pass Robertson. He shot at an angle, but Storer and McFarlane between them cleared. From a free kick Drummond gave the Rangers a chance, but Storer twice saved grandly. The Hibs pulled themselves together, and Murray and Kennedy got off, only to meet with strong opposition in Mitchell and Drummond. Shortly after this a good bit of play by Hyslop enabled McPherson to score the first goal of the match for the Rangers with a shot, which completely surprise Storer. After this the Rangers continued to hold the upper hand, and at the interval led by one goal to nil. On resuming, Mitchell, Hyslop and A smith got, away, but Smith put the ball out of play. Some slow work by the Rangers halves gave Kennedy a chance, but he shot wildly, and the ball went past. McPherson opened up play a bit. After beating Martin, he passed out to Low, who passed McFarlane and shot, but Storer easily saved. The Hibernians meant to improve their position, and romping away in a body, Pryce shot but Dickie saved cleverly, At the other end, Low, Hyslop and A Smith each had a try, but without effect. McPherson was making tracks for Storer when he fouled Martin. The free kick brought little relief, as Hyslop passed out to Low, who scored a second goal for the Rangers with an easy shot while Storer was claiming offside. The referee gave the goal. The Rangers continued to have the game in hand, and Robertson gave away free kick. The scrimmage, which followed, was dangerous, but Breslin got the ball clear. At the other end Pryce tried a long shot, but the ball went far over the bar. Then Hyslop at the other end sent in a swift shot, which Storer saved, but ere he could recover himself Low had the ball in the net. Three goals for Rangers. Several accidents stopped the run of the game, Martin and McCreadie both suffering. The Hibs put forth strenuous efforts to improve their position, but score they could not. Twice Dickie cleared. All round the Rangers were superior, Raisbeck being the best of the Hibernian team. Final result – Rangers 3 goals: Hibernian 0. The sum drawn at the gate amounted to £523 10s 9d and stands £109 10s – total £634 0s 9d, representing an attendance of over 22,000.
