Match Trivia
The opening match on Ibrox Park was played last night in cold drizzling rain before about 3000 spectators. The Rangers has out a strong team, but owing to train delays the Hibs were without Hogg and Breslin, and they had several juniors on trial. About a quarter of an hour late the Hibernian won the toss, and had the wind at their backs, but the Rangers front line got into their game early and Rennie had a lot of hard shots to stop, from Kyle, smith and Mackie, but it was some time ere an opening could be found, the first goal being taken by May, who had all along shown himself a clever opponent of the game. The Hibs forced the pace for a time after this, but the Rangers halves met their attack cleverly, and transferred play once more to the other end, where some neat work by Mackie was unitised by A Smith, who beat Rennie close in with a particularly difficult shot. Halftime Rangers 2: Hibs 0. The second half was very closely contested, the visitors forwards combining better than their had done formerly, but their finishing lacked method, and it was only occasionally that Allan was tested, but his saving was quite up to the reputation he has hitherto held. Glen and McConnachie at back had a lot of hard work to hold the Rangers forwards, who showed plenty of dash, and their defence was so perfect that no further scoring took place in the second half, and a well contested game ended – Rangers 2 goals: Hibernian 0
