Match Trivia
I sympathise with the Hibernian in having to face without McManus the Rangers playing the best game I have seen them do since the sun used to shine. In a general way, no man could have filled the breach in goal better than Kerr, but he would have been invaluable in the middle line, where most of the woes of the Hibernian had their source. These Easter Road half-backs failed to grapple with the fast passing, penetrative Rangers forwards, of whom our old wizard-worker, James Bowie, was the bright particular star. Martin hit it off at once. He was shooting like a gatling-gun, had two goals, and saw several great shots of his saved by Kerr. The Rangers half-backs held the poorly-fed Hibernian forwards pretty tightly. Scoring began when Martin headed past Kerr from a corner finely placed by Scott Duncan. Then a latter, who was in splendid form, began a movement which ended in Charles Duncan dribbling in to pick up a goal. Manderson had the third after tip-tapping the ball past several opponents and shooting low and strongly. Rangers led 3-0 at the interval, and Martin made the score four shortly after the re-start. The Dornan took Kerr unawares with a pass-back, and the ball rolled into the net, giving the Rangers a fifth goal. The Easter Road forwards had frequently rallied and finishing badly, but at last Kilpatrick snapped a goal. Which was the end of the scoring, if not the last of the breezy incidents in a more holding game than the result suggests.
