Match Trivia

The high wind which swept Ibrox Park from end to end had doubtless a great deal to do with the poor form exhibited by the respective forward divisions, but it did not prevent the backs on both sides rising splendidly to the occasion. In view of that forthcoming event at Falkirk, the Rangers forwards were adversely criticised by the spectators. The line never showed any especially clever footwork, and except Dickie, did not impress. In the circumstances the Rangers were a shade fortunate to take full points as the result of a chance overhead kick by Spiers catching Rennie on the hop. Callaghan and his mates formed the better line, but Newbigging seemed to exercise a sort of fascination over them, for shoot they would not. In the second half he only got four shots, and only one caused the goalkeeper any uneasiness. Callaghan was easily the best of the ten forwards, though McCann and Fitzpatrick also played well. Two men among the halves were ever conspicuous both for spoiling and forcing. Gray has never played a better game for his club, while McConnachie was ubiquitous. Stark and Grieve were next in order of merit. At back Campbell and Hendry and Main and Harrower were about on a par. Campbell played a particularly sound game. Never once was he beaten, and Hendry seemed inspired by his example. One the other side, Main held Kyle and Smith with ridiculous ease, while Harrower, although Dickie was too much for him, attended with success to Spiers and Kivlichan. The respective goalkeepers got little to do, and so far as they were concerned a draw correctly reflected the run of the game
