Match Trivia

At Ibrox Park on a snow-cleared but soft pitch before 7,000 spectators. Rangers kicked off against steady breeze and immediately pressed. Spiers and McDonald tested Allan without success, and a corner off Philip met a similar fate. The Hearts then took up the running, but Hamilton twice got offside, and spoiled his side’s chances. When the Rangers returned Reid badly missed the ball, and Campbell, running on, scored an east goal fifteen minutes after the start. Ritchie soon had a good chance of equalising, but Hadden baulked him with a brilliant save. Reid made another bad miss, which Allan duly amended, and the Hearts’ right returned to Hadden. After some fine tackling by Craig, the ball was passed across to Reynolds, who had no difficulty in equalising at close quarters. Give and take play continued till the interval which arrived with the scores equal - one goal each. On resuming, the rangers, with the wind in their favour, immediately pressed, and Spiers had a clever run, beating several opponents, but failing to score. Cunningham almost scored with a header. After a long spell of attacking by the Rangers the Hearts broke away, and Hamilton shot weakly into Hadden. He followed up, and forced the goalkeeper and the ball into the net, but no goal was given, presumably on the ground of pushing. The Rangers returned again, and from a well-placed free-kick near the corner Barrie cleverly headed into the net. The Hearts had more than one chance of equalising, but like the Rangers, they were not very dangerous at close quarters, Craig holding them fairly safe. No further scoring took place and the Rangers retired worthy winners by 2 goals to 1
