Match Trivia

While neither Rangers nor Hearts scored at Ibrox last night, the game was always interesting, and a draw was a fair reflex of the play. About 8,000 people were present. Rangers had the better of the opening exchanges, but the dour Tynecastle defenders gave nothing away, and once the Hearts’ forwards settled down to their game Robb had as many anxious moments as Black. Morton, who appeared at outside right, played a fine forcing game in the first half, but he fell off badly in the second. The Ibrox forwards combined well, with the result that they made headway quickly, and the Hearts’ half-backs were kept continually on the run. Both attacks strove hard to score, but the defence on either side was always superior. Smith, who took Morton’s place at outside left, did fairly well. The Rangers’ reserve back experienced a bit of bad luck with a fine oblique shot which Black was fortunate to get hold of. Against this, Forrest delivered a shot which struck the cross-bar, with Robb helpless. Bob McDiarmid, returned from Dumbarton, was too well held to do any damage. Cairns was the outstanding Rangers’ forward. All the halfs were good. With Meiklejohn number one. McCandless was the safer of a pair of steady backs, and Robb did all that was asked him. Birrell and Jock Wilson were a sound pair of Hearts’ defenders, Ramage was the pick of a trio of steady middlemen, and forward, Forrest was the star. Sharp made him a fine partner
