Match Trivia
Rangers rehabilitated themselves by their grand display against Scottish Cup-holders. That they were out to take toll for a League defeat and their dismissal from the Scottish ties last year was evident form the earnest way they went about their work. A goal in hand at the finish hardly does the ‘Light Blues’ justice, for only the cruellest of luck prevented Reid from scoring on at least two occasions. The centre got little scope in the first half, but in the second portion he was very much in the game. He got grand support from Bowie and Duncan. Bennett was hardly at his best, while Paterson effectiveness was marred by his penchant for over-elaboration. Gordon was like a will o’ the wisp – here, there and everywhere – back, half-back and forward all in one, an artist in everything he attempted. Fulton was the steadier back. Robertson was the losers’ best forward, with McNaught as good second. Croal, though showing some delightful touches, was hardy so effective as usual. Although losing three goals Stewart’s reputation was by no means besmirched. Hempsey saved several better shots than the one from Robertson which counted, but he has no chance with Reilly’s shot.
