Match Trivia
Rangers hold on their way. There was a 20,000 crowd at Ibrox Park, where, although Falkirk had eventually to bow the knee, the champions had their work cut out all through. Frequently during the first half, Rangers looked certain to score, but splendid saving by Ferguson, particularly from Henderson, Morton and Cunningham, kept them out till just on the call of half time, when Henderson scored from an easy chance provided by Cairns after clever combination with Morton. McDougall and Glancy had previously close tries for Falkirk, while Robb had also to hold a stiff delivery by Townsley. The Rangers had a close call when McCandless, in clearing, kicked against Kane, and the ball rebounded just over. At stages of the second period Falkirk played strongly and with great dash. Townsley almost surprised Robb, who was stretched to turn his shot round the post. Ferguson, however, was still the busier keeper, and he maintained his class form till near the end when Cunningham, following a corner-kick, got the leather at close quarters and tipped through. After Ferguson, I would put Townsley, Waugh, Glancy and Hamilton as the smartest ‘Bairns’. Both backs also did well, their punting at times being a treat. Dixon was outstanding for Rangers, who have been seen to greater advantage, and were erratic occasionally. Low, who substituted Archibald, put in some smart work. Henderson kept the Falkirk defence on tenterhooks, and the least luck would have given him another goal
