Match Trivia

Considering the disagreeable nature of the weather a large crowd–probably 8000-turned out yesterday afternoon to witness this friendly game at Ibrox. Rangers having lost the toss, kicked off. In less than a minute a few short passes brought the Rangers in front of Muir, and Hamilton scored. Rangers were shaping well on the soft ground, young Oswald and Gibson feeding their forwards in first class style. Muir was again called upon to save. The visitors soon settled down, and after some clever dodging by J Bell, who passed to Cameron, the latter scored. The ball was extremely heavy, and required hard kicking to send it any distance. Alex Smith was in great form; tow splendid shots by him were almost mulled by Stewart and Muir respectively. Notwithstanding the bad state of the ground, some splendid passing was displayed. So far the visitors defence could make nothing of A Smith. Once again J Bell went off, but Drummond stick tenaciously to him, and Smith stepping in, cleared his lines. Although playing against the wind, the homesters were monopolising three-fourths of the play. The visitors found great difficulty in keeping their feet on the ground. Before halftime the home team scored other two goals. At Halftime the score stood – Rangers 3 goals: Everton 2 goals. The second half was for the most part in favour of the Rangers, Bell alone of the visitors making a good show against the strong defence of the opposition. The ground team shot with great precision, and added tow goals to their total. Everton obtained another point through J Bell, who maintained splendid form throughout. A well-contested game, which was somewhat spoiled by the soft ground, thus ended in favour of the home team. Result – Rangers 5 goals: Everton 3 goals.
