Match Trivia
Played at Ibrox Park before 7000 spectators. The Rangers won the toss, and Hartley kicked off for the Everton, but the home team quickly took the ball up field, and forced Hillman to fist out. The Everton then went for goal in their turn, and things looked lively when Drummond cleared. The visitors were however in fine form, and the forward division kept the play round Yuille for fully five minutes, till Muir dribbled up, and allowed Boyd to get a shot at goal, bit it was to no purpose. Play was getting rather slow, when Latta and McInnes took the ball up field. The former was just in position for a fine shot when Drummond rushed in and spoiled the kick. The game was very unsettled, and play was not so brilliant as might have been expected. Halftime – Rangers 0: Everton 0. After a 10 minute interval, McGowan set the ball roiling for the Rangers, and the Everton forwards quickly took the ball to Yuille’s goal, where Hewitt attempted to screw it round to the net, but his shot went over the bar. A corner kick was sent out by Drummond, but after a brief run by Boyd the Everton forwards set off with a rush and almost before the Rangers knew where they were Latta took a pass from Hewitt and netted the ball, thus opening the score for Everton. A minute after the Rangers had an opportunity to equalise, but the chance was spoiled, and again the English forwards pressed hard on the home citadel, till Crawford kicked out and enabled Boyd and Muir to pass up field. Hillman met them some distance from goal, and spoiled the run by a clever manoeuvre. The Ibrox men were playing a better game than in the first half. A combined rush on the part of the home forwards was spoiled by Storrier, who tripped Gibson in the vicinity of the Everton goal, for which the Rangers were awarded a penalty kick. Drummond took it, and Hillman managed to intercept the ball, but failing to pick it u Drummond rushed in and completed his task, thus scoring the equaliser. The Rangers were now playing fast game, McGowan from the centre, passed to Boyd who easily beat Hillman, and scored the second for the Rangers. A minute afterwards the home forwards again rushed for goal. The visiting backs got in each other’s way, when McGowan sized the opportunity, and rushed forward and easily put on another point for the Rangers. The Liverpool men practically gave up the game after this. Result – Rangers 3 goals: Everton 1 goal.
