Match Trivia

At Ibrox Park, Govan estimated attendance 56,000, drawings (gate and stands) £1621. Dundee opened very strongly with the wind. Their shooting was not on a par with their outfield play, and while Rennie was kept fairly busy he had nothing very serious to do. The Rangers first opening came from a fine centre of Smith’s and Campbell getting between the backs almost scored, Dainty just nipping in at the last moment. Following this Bennett had a good run only to finish widely, and thereafter Dundee were the most prominent side. Hunter profited by Law slipping and rounded Craig very cleverly, but within three yards of Rennie he unaccountable lost control of the ball and allowed the goalkeeper to clear. Neither side had scored at halftime. The second half was more even, and in particular the Rangers defence played with more confidence. It was not until well on in the half that Bennett seized a strong return from Law and centred. Neal and Chaplin between them failed to stop the bustling Campbell, who allowed the ball to go to McPherson, and the inside left scored a goal that was practically gifted. To the finish the game was very keenly contested, but in the main the pace of the ground and the light ball prevented concerted play
