Match Trivia

Played at Ibrox Park, before 3000 spectators. The Rangers kicked off against a strong breeze. The Dundee at once assumed the aggressive, and Gilligan and Keillor ended by the latter sending the ball over the bar. A break away by Boyd and Steel transferred play to the other end. Here McPherson got possession and passed to Barker, who scored the first goal for the Rangers with a fine shot. The Dundee strove hard to equalise. For a time play was confined to the Rangers territory, but the Dundee could not get a chance to score. Another run by the Rangers front rank ended by McPherson centering, and Boyd scored a second goal for the home team. Halftime result – Rangers 2: Dundee 0. Aided by the wind the Rangers soon made for the homemade matters warm for Barrett. McCreadie notched a third goal for the Rangers from a free kick, and Mitchell a fourth. Dundee were most unfortunate and their chances looked bad when Ferrier trying to save a shot from Steel, drew the ball through his own goal. Dundee seldom got past the Rangers halfback line. Again the Rangers forwards came away, and Boyd finished up by notching their sixth goal. The Dundee pulled themselves together and gradually they worked their way up to Haddow’s end. Some clever passing between Gilligan and Keillor gave the former a chance, which he capped by landing the ball in the net, thus registering their first goal. The success gave the Dundee players more confidence in themselves. A capital run by McIlroy and Thomson enabled Keillor to score a second goal. Steel scored a seventh for the Rangers. Final result – Rangers 7 goals: Dundee 2 goals.
