Match Trivia
These clubs met at Ibrox Park, before a meagre attendance. The Athletics were minus Latta, who was doing battle for his country at Kennington Oval. The Athletic kicked off, but Hendry returned and Peacock and Wyllie took up the ball which was sent wide. During the first ten minutes of the game play was chiefly in the strangers territory. The home team was at length rewarded with a goal from the foot of McKenzie. This good piece of luck to the Rangers seemed to awaken the strangers to a sense of duty, for they at once began to act on the offensive. They were, however driven back, but soon returned and scored, which the Rangers seemed to challenge, but it was given by the referee. The Rangers were at last rewarded with a goal for their efforts, which was headed through by McKenzie. This player was showing good form, but his shooting was erratic once or twice. The strangers attacked, but the ball went over. Again they returned and equalised, which honour fell to McCue. The Athletics were now pressing and were conceded a corner from which a goal was scored. The strangers were still acting on the offensive when the whistle blew – Athltic 3 gaols, Rangers 2 goals. On re-starting the Rangers began in good style. From a foul against the strangers the home team nearly scored. The home team was unfortunate during this half in front of the goal as the ball seemed to go everywhere but between the posts. At last the Rangers gave satisfaction to their supporters by equalising about five minutes from the finish. The following was the result – A draw 3 goals each.
