Daphne' Disaster Match - This match took place last evening on the ground of the Rangers Kinning Park, in presence of between 2000 and 3000 spectators and ended in favour of the Rangers by four goals to two. After the kick off which was taken by the Rangers the ball was at once returned by Dumbarton and a grand run made on the left and the ball centred by Brown (No.1) to J Miller who made a goal after a nice shot. The Rangers made a fine run up to their opponents goal almost as soon as the ball was returned from the Glasgow club’s ground after their kick off and a neat run by the whole of the forwards headed by Inglis, Heggie and Christie brought the leather right in front where after some clever heading it was sent under the bar by Heggie. A fine bit of passing by (Brown No 1) and Lindsay brought the scene of the fray to the Rangers goal from which Gillespie had to shy the ball away twice. The Rangers again prevailed however and Inglis by a ‘shooter’ sent the ball under but a foul was claimed and allowed. Five minutes afterwards however a smart shot by Christie earned a second goal for the Rangers. The Dumbarton men afterwards improved in their play and a smart bit of passing led by the new forward and Brown (No 2) ended in a goal being scored by the latter. Halftime was then announced with the game standing at two goals each. Immediately after ends were changed the Rangers got well in front of the Dumbarton goal and had a corner-flag kick and a scrimmage near the posts but the Dumbarton men had soon a turn at the Rangers goal and gave Gillespie some hard work. The Rangers however ‘meant’ it and a third goal was registered for them by Heggie after the ball had been brought up from the 25 yard flag and passed in front by Christie. The Rangers scored a fourth goal out of a scrimmage and when time was announced the Glasgow eleven where hailed the winners by four goals to two. Considering the fact that both teams had little or no practice the play was excellent the Rangers at least in the second half playing much better together than their opponents. The proceeds of the game amounted to the handsome sum of £55.
