Match Trivia

These clubs met on Kinning Park, and a keenly contested games resulted in favour of Dumbarton by five goals to two, since last year the winning team has undergone a considerable change, but the importations from the club in England have in no way weakened the eleven. The new men were in excellent form and the old players – P Miller, Brown and McAulay – showed no falling off. Indeed the last mentioned never performed better between the sticks than on Saturday. The Rangers on the other hand had also two young players in the eleven – Niven at back and Cook forward. While giving the Dumbarton full credit for their victory it is only fair to the losers to state that the scoring sacred indicate the nature of the play, which was remarkable for its evenness. The forwards of the country club however worked the better purpose both in front of the goal and when running up the ball than their opponents. The Rangers scored a neat goal 20 minutes after the start, but a minute latter Aitken equalised the game. This young player all through the match showed excellent play. In five minutes a second point was added by Dumbarton, and after some stiff work in front of their own goal sticks they retaliated, and after a splendid run resulted in a third goal for Dumbarton. On resuming after halftime the Dumbarton at once laced the ball between their opponents goal. Towards the close of the game Cook passed the ball to McKenzie, and the latter touched it on to Heggie the result being a second goal for the Rangers. A fifth point having shortly afterwards been secured by the Dumbarton forwards time was called. For the winners Aitken and Brown played best in a rather superior forward team, while the backs and goalkeeper left little to be desired. For the Rangers Cameron, McIntyre and McHardy made a pretty strong division; but though individually the forwards played well, there seemed to be a want of combination.
