Match Trivia
At Ibrox Dumbarton were not as much outclassed as the score would suggest. Throughout they played a strong, open swinging game, and at times shaped very well. Loch had to effect some daring clearances, and as the result of one of these, following a faulty pass back he came to grief, but the trainer soon put him right. While the Ibrox men played nice combined football for the first half-hour and pressed severely, they were slack at goal. Many good openings were thrown away, although the Dumbarton custodian effected several good saves, particularly in dealing with hot stuff from Scott Duncan. After thirty minutes’ play, the other Duncan from a corner smartly beat Hamilton, and almost immediately after, a ball from the same foot evidently intended for a centre, sailed into the net high up at the corner of the far post. The second half was a repetition of the first, unless that the Rangers’ finishing was more deadly. From a penalty Scott Duncan scored, and about midway through this half Cairns ran through and registered a fourth goal. Later Logan drove home from twenty yards’ range, and fine work by Cairns and Archibald enabled C Duncan to complete his ‘hat trick.’ Owing to Lister’s absence McKim and Ritchie played out of their usual positions in the Boghead attack, which suffered much in consequence. The Petershill boy was blanketed by Logan. Catterson and Thom were best of the line which found the Ibrox defence too much for it. Hamilton, Travers and Baird strove hard to stay the rot, but their backs were none too steady. The Rangers’ new men all did exceptionally well, Bell’s footwork and passing being especially clever
