At Ibrox Park the Rangers had the Dumbarton as opponents. There was a large gathering of spectators. The Rangers having lost the toss, kicked off with the wind and the sun against them, but soon Barker scored, after which each goal was visited in turn. Dumbarton aided by the wind were pressing, but their dribbling and passing were too wide. A shot by Campbell missed the goal by a foot. The Rangers next had an innings, but then the Dumbarton right wing got within shooting distance, and Weir gave Haddow a difficult shot, which he cleared in rare style. Some splendid play by Barker and McPherson raised the enthusiasm of the crowd. Barker was assign nicely, but the defence of the Dumbarton was in tune. The result at halftime was – Rangers 1 goal: Dumbarton 0. On resuming, McCreadie passed to Cowan, who aimed well, and Barker being hardy notched the second goal for the Rangers ere the second half was a minute gone. Two minutes later Cowan nearly repeated the performance, but the ball went behind. From the goal kick the Dumbarton right went off. Forsyth passed to Craig, but that player missed the ball, and it went into touch. From Mitchell’s throw-in Barker got possession, but McMillan spoiled his shot. Shortly after Barker had another try, but an appeal for offside was sustained. The game was now all in favour of the Rangers, who pressed severly, and but for their brilliant defence Dumbarton would have lost several goal. There was good deal of give and take play, but luck was against the visitors, and the game ended – Rangers 3 goals: Dumbarton 0 goals.
