Match Trivia
This match was played at Ibrox Park, in presence of a large concourse of spectators, and ended in favour of Dumbarton by three goals to two. The strangers won the toss, and Lawrie kicked off for the Rangers. The visitors open the match by a splendid attack on the Rangers citadel, which was well defended by Nicol. After some hard play Jamieson scored a goal for the visitors. In about ten minutes afterwards White made one for the Rangers – thus equalising the score. The Rangers then had repeated attacks on the visitor’s goal, but were repulsed by the backs. At halftime the score were equal with one goal each. On ends being changed with the even record of one goal all, it was difficult to say what side had the best of it for a time. Eventually however, the strangers pressed hard on their opponent’s goal, and Aitken made a second point for them. As the game advanced Bell headed the ball through the posts, but no score was allowed in consequence of one of the forwards being off side. About this time White got seriously hurt, and had to retire. Lawrie however soon scored a second goal for the Rangers by a well-directed shot. Not long before time was called Dumbarton scored a third point and the game resulted in their favour by three goals to two
