Match Trivia
Give Cowdenbeath the cheer. They made Rangers feel glad it was all over. Comparing the standing of the two teams, I am bound to award the honours to the Fifers. They made a great fight of it without having any luck to help them. There was something not al all right with the Rangers attack although, from their point of view, a satisfactory feature was the share new chum Roberts had in all three goals. He moved freely and confidently, and I should imagine, will keep his place. Rangers led at the interval by two goals, which were scored in 27 and 28 minutes. I do not consider that Cowdenbeath should, on play, have been in that position, even if the game run, so far, in favour of Rangers. The goals, however, were well taken. Roberts centred both times, and first Gillick and then Main got the shot away clean and hard. Cowdenbeaths second-half showing was a credit to them. They were full of beans and played as if they knew they had a chance. When Craigie went racing through to beat Dawson 27 minutes after the restart, it was apparent that anything could happen, but fortunately for Rangers, Roberts got across another of his centres three minutes later, and when the ball was deflected off Clark, Gillick easily netted. Cowdenbeath never lay down, and they got a cheer coming off. They had a solid defence and three able half-backs who allowed the Rangers forwards no second chance. Craigie was the live wire in front and Hamil and Kean could centre and shoot as Dawson knows. Rangers changes were only a qualified success. Hay was not too sure in his tackling, but the conditions gave the man on the ball an advantage. The forwards, as a whole, were not a real Rangers line.
