This looks like a debacle. So it was, in fact. Rangers had only a couple of goals at the interval, but if their forwards had been shooting, then as they did in the second half, the eventual toral might have been reached by half-time. Cowdenbeath never really got going. Surely, they can do a great deal better. Their defence, with young Crawford, of Thornton Rangers, at right back, held out as long as it was possible to do it, but the strength of the Rangers forward play, its speed and directness of method, overwhelmed the Fifers as time went on. Half-backs and forwards were a combine machine. The pass back and the cross pass were exploited to the full, and so the Cowdenbeath middlemen strove in vain to get to grips with the enemy. I was terribly disappointed with the Cowdenbeath forwards. They were very loose and slipshod in their passing. There was little or no thrust about them except in the last five minutes when they shook off the depression of defeat and went out for a goal that would have meant really nothing. Wann had no chance with any of the goals, for most of them were taken from close range after the backs had been played out of position. Tom Hamilton depended on the pass back for most of the balls that reached him. Gray and Newry Hamilton were pretty nearly unbeatable behind half-backs who could disorganise the attack when it did bot disorganise itself. In the first half Marshall and McPhail were shooting badly, but it was a different story afterwards. Both Brown and Buchanan played to their wing in the best style. Marshall was a great forager and Archibald played his best game since returning to the team. The speed and dah of McGown gave Frame the hardest match he has had for a long time, and on the left McPhail and Morton developed into a hard-hitting wing. It was too easy. McGowns opening goal after 12 minutes was a fine bit of opportunism, although in this case Wann made perhaps his one mistake in not properly clearing a previous shot. Archibald shot the second goal after half-an-hour. The order of the goals in the second half was Marshall (a header from Archibalds corner), McPhail (also a header from Mortons pass, McGown (from Browns pass), McPhail and Marshall)
