Match Trivia
Both Rangers and Clydebank took a long time to settle down, although Henderson early located Morton, and gave him tow warm shots to negotiate. Cunningham next initiated a fine passing run and Archibald sweetly across the goalmouth. Henderson missed for Lawson to shoot wildly past from short range. Jimmy Bowie kept pushing the ball up the centre of the field to Henderson, but George’s elevation was a trifle too much to cause Morton any undue anxiety. The Bankies opened out a bit, and McLavin, well on the run parted to McIntosh. The outside man beat the back, but his parting effort went by. Robb so far had little to do. Any shots that came his way were from long range, so well were McCandless and Manderson coping with all attacks. Five minutes after the restart Rangers scored, and a pretty piece of play it was. Meiklejohn sent the ball on to Henderson. The centre rounded the defence, Morton came out to meet him, the ball went to Archibald, and the outside ran the ball through. Rangers had a hot time of it after this. McLavin, well set for goal, was only shouldered off a critical moment. Next Paton, and Goldie shot into goal. Robb could only touch the ball with his own back lying up against him, and McLavin, stuck in the mud, could not get his itching toe at the ball from three yards’ range. Rangers were awarded a penalty, but Morton cleverly tipped the ball over, and the resultant corner was cleared. The stubborn and at times clever defence of the Bankies, coupled with the ineptitude of their forwards to control the ball, kept them from scoring
