Match Trivia
Played at Ibrox Park before 4000 spectators. The Rangers having lost the toss kicked off with the sun at their back. After some clever centre play, the Rangers got sown on Donnelly, and White conceded a corner. Barker took the kick, but nothing came of it. Then the Clyde took u the running, and from a smart return by Bowie they also got a corner. The ball was beautifully placed, and A Crawford headed it into the net. First goal for Clyde. Keeping up the pressure the Clyde soon had a second goal, Leslie doing the scoring with a fine shot, which Bell had no chance. These reverses made the Rangers pull themselves together, and Donnelly had his work cut out for him. He did his work splendidly however and time after time he cleared his charge. At last a shot from McPherson took effect, and the Rangers got their fist goal. A run by Gray enabled Leslie to notch a third goal for the Clyde, which Bell might have scored. The rangers played for all they were worth, but were met by a stubborn defence. Oswald form a return by Donnelly, headed a second goal. Halftime result – Clyde 3 goals: Rangers 2 goals. Without leaving the field the teams crossed over and resumed the game. After each goal had been visited, the Rangers got a third goal, Mitchell equalising with a fine long low shot. A breakaway by the Clyde was repelled by Drummond and Smith without great difficulty. A perfect siege by the Rangers forwards ended by Oswald scoring their fourth goal from a scrimmage. The Clyde were not yet done with, and Gray with a long shot scored the fourth goal. The Rangers were completely taken by surprise at the turn in the tide. They could not quite recover themselves, and the result was their shooting was erratic. The result was a draw- 4 goals each.
