Match Trivia
For half an hour the majority of the 10,000 spectators at Ibrox last night must have imagined that the Rangers were doomed to a repeat of their Cup final experience. Up to that point the ‘Light Blues’ had striven in vain for a clear passage past Cown and Farrell, what time Robb’s fort had one or two ‘narrow squeaks’. In the end, the Rangers won handsomely, and the two points enabled them to retain the League championship. Nearing the interval, a succession of corners at the Clyde’s end foreboded disaster, and Henderson ultimately hooked the ball past Shingleton. This was the only exciting incident of a tame first half. Worse was in store for the Shawfield boys upon resuming. Cunningham had a powerful drive blocked by Farrell, but Archibald seized hold of the ball, parted judiciously, and Meiklejohn applied the finishing touch. Brown raised Shawfield hopes when he slammed a Morris cross past Rob, but still, it was strikingly apparent who were the masters. It was ‘all Rangers’ in the last fifteen minutes, for Morton could now take liberties with Cowan, and that meant a trying time for the Clyde rear trio. Archibald added to Clyde’s cup of sorrow by scoring a seemingly offside goal on the call of time
