Match Trivia

This match was played at Ibrox Park, Govan before 4000 spectators the weather was favourable for the event. Having lost the toss, the Rangers kicked off against a stifhish breeze. McPherson essayed a run, but he was intercepted by Leslie, who passed out to Gardner, the ball went into touch. Clyde still retained possession till Gray sent the ball behind. From the goal kick the Rangers made some progress, but ere they got far past the centre line they were brought up with a free kick. Hannah took it and placed well, but Jackson cleared. Hyslop was next prominent. He dodged Bowie and sent the ball to Low, but the latter player dribbled too far in front, and Morrison spoiled his chance. Turnbull had a shot, which just went over. A corner for the Rangers proved fruitless. At the other end Leslie had a rare try, but the ball went behind. Clyde continued to press, and Crawford had an overhead kick, the ball going behind. A corner kick for the Clyde was unavailing. Play was not very brilliant, anything special which was dome being on the Clyde’s side. Rangers went as it a will, and from a cross by Low McPherson at last scored their first goal. Halftime – Rangers 1: Clyde 0. After the interval the Clyde went off with a rush, and Crawford had a shot, but he missed the mark. From the goal kick the Rangers came away with a rush. They pressed severly for a time. Twice Shields had to throw out to save, and the bout was only finished by McPherson putting the ball over the bar. From the goal kick Clyde came away, and getting set they crowded round Dickie, who finished a shot by Gray, and ere he could recover himself Gardner had the ball in the net, thus equalising the game. Immediately after this the Rangers had a splendid opportunity to increase their total, but Low made a bad pass, and ere McPherson could get at it Morrison cleared. Hyslop and Smith were working hard to get a goal, but they were well in check by Bowie and Hannah. Rangers were putting on the pace to some tune, but Shields was one too many for them. The result was – Rangers 2 goals: Clyde 1 goal.
