Match Trivia
Clyde made a good show at Ibrox, although they dropped the points by the odd goal in three. Rangers had out a serviceable side without their sergeants. Clyde went with the wind, and Maxwell failed to hold when he had the beating of Lock. Another raid by the Shawfielders brought out the Rangers’ goalkeeper’s capabilities, and thereafter Rangers struck a better game. Well led by Hart, they showed good command, but always failed at the last lap. It was a case of level pegging, more or less, with neither side being able to finish to advantage, and at the interval there was nothing done. Rangers had the call in the second half, but the Clyde first threatened danger, Watson going through, only to be pulled up by Lock. The going on both sides showed attractive football, with many interesting and exciting passages. Midway through Rangers drew first blood. It was a smartly taken goal, which Archibald ‘housed’ from a difficult angle. Once on the target the Rangers moved freely, and Bowie went through and gave Shingleton no chance for the second goal. Clyde never gave up hope, and fell fighting, and in the closing stages Watson scored from a flag-kick, and though beaten, they were not disgraced. For Rangers Lock did well, Manderson and Blair were steady, with Dixon outstanding at half. Bowie was the headiest forward, with Archibald a good second, while Hart made quite a good leader. For Clyde, Shingleton put up a good game, Cowan was the better back, and Beattie string at half. Forward, Watson and Kelly did well, with the Armadale wing working in unison. Scorers :- Rangers – Archibald and Bowie; Clyde – Watson. Attendance, 10,000
