Madden and Blessington engaged in a run, but Gibson caught their pass. Coming away with a rush, the Rangers had a good look in, and Oswald sent in a beauty, which McArthur smartly saved. A corner followed, but it also proved fruitless. The Celtic continued to press for a time, and the Rangers defence had their work cut out for them. Rangers made strenuous efforts too and at this stage Oswald, McPherson and Stewart each had a try, but McArthur was not to be beaten. Both teams were playing a rattling good game, but the Celtic defence was excellent. Halftime result – Rangers 0: Celtic 0. After the interval the Celts, who now had wind and sun at their back, began to press. They were met by a stubborn defence, however and ere long play was at the other end. A surprise came when McPherson sent in a scorcher, which Stewart popped past McArthur ere the Celt knew where he was. Two minutes later Stewart passed again, and A Smith scored a second goal for the Rangers. The Celtic settled down after these reverse, and after a couple of byes Ferguson had a try from long range, which took effect. One goal for Celtic. Play toued down a bit, Celtic however were pressing, and a free kick might have given them the coverted goal, but Dunbar put the ball over the line. A fine ass from the right was rushed through by Crossan, and the game was equal. The Rangers carried the ball to within fifteen yards of McArthur, where Stewart missed the goal by a foot. Now the Celts had their innings, and when Dunbar put on their third goal with a long shot they looked all over winners. Two minutes later Blessington nearly scored another Wilson just getting the ball away in time ere Martin had him in the net. Dunbar scored a fourth goal with a long shot ten minutes before the close. The Rangers put on a spurt, but their efforts wee frustrated by Kelly, who kicked into touch. No further scoring took place. Result – Celtic 4 goals: Rangers 2 goals.
