Match Trivia
The final tie for the Charity Cup was played at Ibrox Park before a large crowd, fully 20,000 strong. Beautiful summer weather prevailed and a fast game resulted. The first half was stubbornly contested by both sides, the Rangers pressing severely for a time, but latterly falling off in their aggressiveness. The Celts well led by McMahon scored the only goal of this half as the result of clever play by Hodge. Halftime – Celtic 1 goal: Rangers 0 goals. The second half was notable for the continued good display by the Celts, who excelled especially forward. The few chances which fell to the Rangers were badly utilised, McArthur’s post being practically a sinecure. Celtic scored again through Somers, the ball going through off Gibson, and maintaining their lead to the end-ran out easy winners by 2 goals to 0. The drawings amounted to £568 14s 6d; the gate being £479 18s and the stands realising the remaining £38 6s 6d. The total sum drawn from the three ties amounts to £1136 14s 6d and when all expenses are met there should be almost £1600 for division amongst the different charitable institutions.
